business directory data

Registry-sourced company records, with the source on the row.

One of our three sourcing streams is public business directories and registries: company websites, published directories, corporate and trade registries, and professional listings where contact details are published for the purpose of being contacted. Every record carries a source tag, so its origin can be traced after delivery.
traceable origin is the whole point of a source tag

the three streams

Where a business record can come from, and nowhere else.

Directory data is one of three streams, and we would rather name all three than let you assume. Each record is tagged with which one it came from.
Permission-based collection
Newsletter and subscription forms, gated content downloads, webinar and event registrations, preference-centre signups. Double opt-in where the collecting property supports it.

Public web and business directories

Company websites, published directories, corporate and trade registries, professional listings. This is the directory stream, and the largest one.
Licensed data partners
Records acquired under written agreement from vetted providers, each required to warrant it holds the right to license the data onward.
Compilation and standardisation
Normalisation, exact dedupe on email then fuzzy matching on name plus domain, malformed and placeholder records dropped, completeness scoring, indexing by country, industry, size and seniority.
what happens to a directory record

A registry listing is not a lead until it survives this.

Scraping a directory is easy and produces a bad file. The work is what happens next, before a single mailbox is probed.

01

Normalise

Casing, encoding and field mapping made consistent, so country, industry and job-title values are comparable across every source

us

02

Deduplicate

Exact match on email, then fuzzy matching on name plus domain — the same company listed in four directories becomes one record.

us

03

Drop the unusable

Malformed and placeholder records are removed rather than padded out to raise a count.

us

04

Score and index

Completeness scoring, then indexing by country, industry, company size and role seniority so the record can be cut later without re-processing.

us

05

Verify

Only then does the address go through the seven-check pipeline. Verification is expensive; there is no point probing a record that should not be in the file.

Directory coverage varies with how open a country’s registries are — which is part of why counts differ this much between markets of similar size.

compliance

We document where a record came from. You establish the lawful basis for contacting it.

Only the sender knows the message, the audience and the jurisdiction it lands in, so only the sender can determine the lawful basis. What we owe you is a traceable origin, a maintained suppression file, and honest answers about both.

questions

Questions about sourcing

Is this scraped data?
Public directory and registry data is collected from sources that publish contact details for the purpose of being contacted, then compiled and verified. We do not take data from behind logins or paywalls, and we do not buy from sources that cannot warrant their right to license it.
Yes. Every record carries a source tag, and if you query a row we will tell you which stream it came from.
[email protected]. The record is removed and the address is added to permanent suppression, so it does not return in a later build.
From licensed partners under written agreement, where the partner warrants it holds the right to license the data onward. That is stream three, and it is a minority of the file.
